It can be overwhelming at first if you've been relying on others to make your health choices, but it becomes much easier with understanding and insight. We began our health journey 15 years ago with the discoveries about natural birth. A few years later, we began to understand the foundational health principles that could destroy disease-- of which we had many!

There were key books that helped us on our way. We will discuss those critical foundational pieces in the weeks ahead. Today, especially for those who currently are struggling, we will discuss 'The Maker's Diet' by Jordan Rubin. This book shares Jordan's incredible story of being near death for years, and his transformation into healing through following the diet God prescribes. He later began a health supplement company that we enjoyed for many years. We followed this diet as a family and saw great success in healing.

If you want to take charge of your own health, we recommend this as a foundational book for gaining insight into the human body, and how the body systems fail and thrive based on what goes into it.

Great cedar chips for houseplant planter mulch! Good for scented satchels too!

"I purchased these cedar chips to use a top my houseplant pots.

The natural scent is a deterrent for many insects, including adult fungus gnats, which can frequent houseplant soil. Though the cedar don't affect the larvae, it's great for preventing the adults from reaching soil to lay more eggs.

The scent is strong and smells wonderful. I may use this to make satchels for my drawers and linen closets to help keep the miller moths at bay, too. Cedar is a wonderful and natural insect repellent.

Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase. These are a tad pricey for the quantity received, but the product is great for my needs. Should I run out, I'll definitely buy a few bags again.

The cedar chip size is small, and light, which is perfect for covering soil in indoor planters."

Survived a Forest Fire!

Screech Owl Habits in the Owl Box House

Here is a pattern of what might occur with a screech owl family that chooses to nest in your Vundahboah Amish Goods cedar owl box.

The female screech owl may live in the box for most of the year, while the male may choose to go off for much of the year. If they have babies in the spring, the screech owl male may hang out through the summer, and leave in the fall.

During the summer, the owl mother and owl father will teach the baby owls to fly and hunt. By summer end, the owlets will move on to find their own territories. The mother will remain in the box and the father will return in the spring and often, the cycle is then repeated by these original parents.

Many people see owl houses as a springtime purchase, but the truth is, mounting an owl house during any time of the year can prove fruitful in the long run for attracting owls to your area.

Other than the pure enjoyment of watching the family pass through and use your yard as a habitat, another benefit of having an owl house/home is that when owls move in, they help cut down on the number of rodents and snakes nearby as well.

How to mount owl box to attract owls

These tips were created by a guest poster, who is a decades long bird watcher and owler and was part of the inspiration for our best-selling Amish Cedarwood Owl House.

When mounting your owl house on a pole or tree to attract owls, use two long screws or nails to sink a minimum of 1-2" into the tree. For rougher barked trees like pine trees, use longer screws to get through. If mounting on a living tree, as most of you are, leave at least 1/4" of space between the back of the box and the screw head to allow for expansion as the tree grows.

Place the owl box at least 15' high and just below the tree canopy if possible. Position the owl house so dense branches are not impeding the bird's straight flight to box. Orient the box entrance hole to face to the East or Southeast so chicks get morning sun and evening shade.

For our Amish cedar owl house, before you mount it, open the door and score the inside with a knife to create small indententions or "steps" right under the hole so that i can be easily climbed by the owls

SAFETY TIP - - Be sure to tie off your ladder while working and have assistance at the ready while you work.

Why you need solid cedar wood step stools

Our handmade, handcrafted step stools are Amish made in the USA with 100% solid raw cedar. The aromatic cedarwood is a wonderful addition to any home as it has a lasting anti-insect effect. Great as a bedside stool, kitchen step stool or some even use it in the bathroom as an accompaniment to the toilet, similar to a Squatty Potty.

Cedar a sustainable wood that is quick growing in a variety of climates across America. We have had many customers enjoy this footstool over the years, and some like to add a clear coat, some like to add a stain and others (like myself) use it completely unvarnished.

About a third of our customers opt for two or more stools to have throughout the house, in a closet or laundry room, as well as near a bed or in the kitchen.

This stool slides well when adding small felt pads to the base, and is light enough to be moved with just one foot to another area. It slides on wood floors beautifully so you can bring it over, use it, and slide it back to the end of my counter where it lives without ever bending over.

It's an attractive wood and design so it's not a problem being tucked away and still in view as it adds to the aesthetic in the kitchen, bedroom or elsewhere in the home.
